Mission

A Call to Action connects residents and visitors to the Lowcountry’s rich historical and cultural past.

Vision

A Call to Action envisions a vibrant community where people may encounter, explore, and share the past, and apply that understanding to manage future change and development while protecting the region’s distinctive heritage.

Toward this end, A Call to Action will undertake the following activities:

  • Continue to research the Lowcountry’s history and make it accessible to the public.

  • Maintain and enhance a heritage trail in Bluffton and Port Royal that promotes site visitation and strengthens a sense of community.

  • Design and deliver educational programs that engage the community and instill a sense of place that connects one generation to another.

  • Support the preservation and interpretation of physical and cultural remains of the Lowcountry’s unique heritage that contribute to community identity and character.

  • Encourage stewardship of community cultural resources.

Our Story

In 2015 a diverse group of insightful and benevolent members of the community gathered and conversed about the needs they observed in the Lowcountry. We passionately chatted about historical preservation, the necessity for mentors in the school system, economic development, and the desire to offer life skills training to those in need. With so many pressing issues we knew the distance between a better tomorrow and the issues of today was “action”. It was then that A Call to Action (ACTA) was formed.

We understand that vision without ACTION is a daydream.

We understand that ACTION is the foundation to all success.

We understand that to make a real difference in the community they must answer that call to ACTION.
